Karaoke

Karaoke is ONDA Boquete’s weekly party-vibe activity. It works best when the volunteer actively builds momentum, gets the first singers going, and makes the room feel supportive rather than awkward.

Purpose

Karaoke exists to create a fun, high-energy social night in the bar.

For volunteers, the goal is to:

  • get the room warmed up
  • encourage guests to participate
  • manage the singer queue
  • keep the night moving
  • make the vibe feel playful and welcoming

What it is

Karaoke is a hosted sing-along night using:

  • a laptop
  • YouTube videos
  • the existing speaker and mic setup at the bar

Guests add their names to a simple paper queue and sing in turn.

There is no formal winner. The goal is energy, participation, and fun.

Volunteer responsibilities

Before karaoke:

  • Set up the laptop
  • Connect with HDMI if needed
  • Make sure the correct sound setting is selected on the computer
  • Confirm the speaker/mic setup is working

During karaoke:

  • Manage the singer queue with paper and pen
  • Encourage guests to put their names down
  • Keep the order moving
  • Help the room stay fun and supportive

At the start of the night:

  • Use free seco shots strategically to help build momentum
  • Offer them early if needed to help people start singing
  • Use good judgment rather than giving them out endlessly

How volunteers should explain it

  • “Karaoke starts around 7 tonight.”
  • “It’s free and anyone can sing.”
  • “Just put your name down on the list.”
  • “We’ll get it going and keep the queue moving.”

Common guest questions

Do I need to sign up in advance?

  • No. Guests just add their name to the queue.

Can I join later?

  • Yes.

Do I need to sing, or can I just watch?

  • Guests can absolutely just watch and enjoy the vibe.

Is there a prize?

  • No official prize.

What not to do

  • Do not forget to test the setup before starting
  • Do not let the queue become messy or unclear
  • Do not wait too long to get the first singers going
  • Do not be shy about using the early seco shots to build momentum
  • Do not let the room go flat at the beginning
  • Do not make guests feel judged or pressured

What success looks like

  • The setup works smoothly
  • Guests understand how to join the queue
  • The first few singers happen quickly
  • The room builds energy early
  • Guests feel encouraged, not embarrassed
  • The night keeps moving without long dead moments

One-line summary

Karaoke succeeds when the volunteer gets the room warmed up fast, manages the queue clearly, and keeps the energy fun and easy.
