Flip It Friday
Flip It Friday is one of ONDA Boquete’s most interactive specials. It works because it feels playful, but it only works well when guests understand the rule clearly before the coin is flipped.
Purpose
This special exists to:
- create a fun bar interaction
- make beer and wine sales more engaging
- give the bar team an offer that feels memorable and social
Volunteers do not run the flip, but they should understand the rules well enough to explain the idea correctly and avoid confusion.
Offer details
| Item | Detail |
| Day | Friday |
| Start time | 11:00 a.m. |
| End time | 11:00 p.m. |
| Offer | Chance to win 50% off beer and wine |
| Eligible items | Beer and wine only |
| Type | Drink special |
| Owned by | Guest service team / bartenders |
How it works
- The guest places an order that includes beer and/or wine
- The guest must commit to purchasing the order before the coin is flipped
- The guest chooses heads or tails
- The bartender flips the coin
- If the guest guesses correctly, the bartender applies the 50% discount to the beer and wine items only
- If the order includes food or other items, those are not discounted
The flip is done per order, not per individual drink.
Important rule
If a guest agrees to the flip, then backs out after losing, they are no longer eligible for the Flip It Friday offer for the rest of the night.
This matters because the offer only works if the commitment is real.
What guests should be told
- Flip It Friday applies to beer and wine only
- The guest must agree to buy the order regardless of the flip result
- The flip covers the beer and wine part of the order, not food or other items
- It runs from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
How volunteers should talk about it
- “Today is Flip It Friday — if you order beer or wine, you can flip for 50% off.”
- “You have to commit to buying the order before the flip.”
- “If you win, the discount applies to the beer and wine items only.”
Common points of confusion
- Guests may think the discount applies to the whole order
- Guests may think each drink gets a separate flip
- Guests may think they can back out after losing
- Guests may assume food is included
The correct explanation:
- one flip per order
- discount applies only to beer and wine
- the guest must commit before the flip
- backing out ends eligibility for the special that night
What not to do
- Do not explain it vaguely
- Do not imply food is included
- Do not suggest the guest can decide after the flip
- Do not improvise exceptions
- Do not let the offer sound optional after the result is known
What success looks like
- Guests understand the rules before the flip happens
- Fewer disputes happen at the bar
- Volunteers describe the offer cleanly and simply
- The special stays fun without creating confusion
One-line summary
Flip It Friday only works when guests clearly understand that they must commit before the flip, and that the 50% discount applies only to beer and wine.
