Reception Volunteer - Pension Santa Elena
Overview
The Reception Volunteer role supports the front desk and helps create a friendly, smooth arrival experience for guests. This role is currently specific to Monteverde and is based within the reception team at Pension Santa Elena. It is ideal for someone who is curious, motivated, friendly, and interested in learning hospitality operations from the front line.
This role is voluntary and compensated with room and board.
Role Summary
The Reception Volunteer supports daily reception tasks by welcoming guests, assisting with check-ins, answering questions, and helping keep the front desk area organized and guest-ready. This is a guest-facing hospitality role where communication, responsiveness, and friendliness matter every day.
What You'll Do
You'll be expected to arrive on time to your shifts, be present in reception throughout your shift, and greet guests quickly and warmly. During check-in, you'll help provide the essential hostel information and use the welcome script or reception guidance provided by the team.
You'll also provide attentive guest service, help manage expectations through clear communication, and support any additional responsibilities included on the shift checklist or assigned by the FOH supervisor. Because reception can include quieter moments, you may have some downtime, but guest attention must always come first.
Good Fit For This Role
This role is ideal for someone who wants practical front-desk experience in a small hostel environment and enjoys being the first point of contact for guests. It suits someone calm, observant, and welcoming, who understands that little details and clear communication make a big difference.
What We're Looking For
About Pension Santa Elena
Pension Santa Elena is a small, friendly hostel in the heart of Santa Elena, the town center of Costa Rica's Monteverde region. Its central location makes it a convenient home base for exploring the cloud forest, with restaurants, cafés, shops, tours, and transportation close by.
The property has a relaxed, personal atmosphere, a lush interior garden, a shared kitchen, and a knowledgeable local team that helps guests make the most of Monteverde. Compared with ONDA's larger properties, the experience is more intimate and hands-on. It is a good fit for volunteers who enjoy nature, meaningful conversations, and helping travelers feel at home in a smaller hostel.
